Work opportunities in the legal field

Law is any written or positive rule or a collection of rules prescribed under the authority of the state or nation as by the people , in its constitution. Legal private practice is a major opening for law graduates.

Company Secretary:

As a Company Secretary, one needs to have a good understanding of the subjects like law, management, finance, corporate governance, corporate planning, tax planning and tax management. He/she acts as legal advisor to the company, plans expansion opportunities, oversees collaborations, amalgamations, mergers, etc.  and serves as a vital link between the company and its board of directors, shareholders and governmental agencies.

Eligiblity:

  • 10+2 in any stream -> Foundation course in CS, Intermediate examination in CS -> Final examination in CS OR
  • 10+2 in any stream Graduation in any subject -> Intermediate examination in CS, Final examination in CS OR
  • 10+2 in any stream -> Foundation course in CS along with graduation in any subject -> Intermediate examination in CS -> Final examination in CS.

Legal Writer:

With a flair for writing and knowledge in law, you could be employed to write law reports, articles for newspapers, magazines and journals.  You could also be called in for writing legal commentaries.

  • 10+2 in any stream -> B.A. LL.B. or B.Sc. LL.B   OR  10+2 in any stream. Graduation in any subject -> LL.B.

Defence Service Provider:

With qualifications in law and a will to work for your motherland, you could be employed at the Indian Army, Navy or Air Force in the legal branches.  Your job would include conducting court enquiry and court martial of offending service personnel.

If you like to verify, authenticate, certify and attest the execution of any deed, you would do well as a Notary. You would however require around ten years of experience in the legal profession.

Work opportunities in the legal field

  • One can find employment in Solicitor firms specializing in Corporate Law/Criminal Law/Income Tax Law/Real estate law and other specialized areas of law.
  • One could also practice as a junior lawyer under a senior lawyer and then become an independent corporate or criminal lawyer.
  • In the legal and secretarial department of a company.
  • In government judicial services like Central Government Legal Services and State Government legal services, Intelligence services like in CBI, etc.
  • Defence services like Army Law cadres.
  • In management consultant firms and corporate auditing firms.
  • Journalism – to write on legal matters and issues in various newspapers and law magazines.
  • Publishing – publishing of law books and journals is quite a big industry.  You could work as editorial assistants with the publishers and with experience become coordinators.
